Be the Rock that Starts the Ripple of Transformation

The holiday season is well upon us. The celebration of Christmas is everywhere and soon we will be ringing in a new year. It is the season of giving, remembering and sharing the love. During this magical time of faith, family, and friends, it is important to consider the wonderful ways you can make a difference in the lives of others.

The Samaritas Good Samaritan Fund provides supportive programs for our most vulnerable individuals, such as emergency services for the homeless, affordable residential housing for persons with disabilities and seniors, and foster care.

Meet Ivy…As a safe harbor for families in crisis, Samaritas assists vulnerable children find loving foster homes with our wonderful foster family partners, while their birth parents regain stability in their lives. In 2017, our family preservation programs helped 3,416 Michigan families recover from crisis. Helping families be whole and healthy is always the goal for us.

When it is not possible for children to return to their biological family’s home, we find a new path that best serves the children in our care.

“At 17 months old, on June 15, 2018, I was adopted into my forever family. It’s my Gotcha Day. My parents tell me it’s the best day of their lives. After all the years of praying to Jesus for a baby, he gave them one through foster care and adoption.” – Ivy

Meet Benedicte and her family…“I fled my home with my two children and only the clothes on our backs. We went to go to seek shelter, not knowing what to do or what would happen to us. After five long years of living in a refugee camp, taking one day at the time, my children and I finally arrived in Detroit where Samaritas welcomed us at the airport.”

For many refugees like Benedicte’s family, the journey to a life free of war, political unrest and persecution is long and stressful. Samaritas’ Good Samaritan Fund provides financial assistance to our New Americans programs through employment and education support. That support means that most refugees obtain self-sufficiency within one year of arrival.

Ivy and Benedicte are just two of thousands of people Samaritas helps every year. When you join Samaritas Nation, you become a part of our mission serving children and families in many ways.

In 2017, right here in Southeast Michigan, our Family Center Westland provided emergency housing to 374 homeless individuals and families. Through our Foster Care programs, Samaritas helped 332 children find loving homes while their parents regained stability in their lives.
