December Greetings From Our Administrator, Deb Sloss

I don’t know about you, but I blinked and 2018 was over. What a fast year filled with a lot of love, fun and events that caused my gray hair. The best advice I received from one of our residents is “this too shall pass,” and it has. However, instead of focusing on 2018, I want to look forward to 2019.

There are intentions that we as a team will be working on. In January, we will get the result of our resident satisfaction survey. These results truly drive activity of change. For example, in 2017 there were concerns about the doors not being routinely locked at 5 p.m. It took a lot of time and research to find a company to fit our needs, but what a great improvement in helping our residents and families feel safer. Another example was the request for improved communication with the team in Assisted Living. Care conferences are now being held as an intentional time to discuss what’s working, what needs improvement, and how can we best serve our residents. These are just two examples of how we listen to survey results. I am excited to see what the 2018 results show and where our opportunities of improvement will be.

In 2019, we are going to continue working on being fully staffed. One of the consequences of a good economy is there are fewer applicants for one position. The labor shortage is a concern across the country and Samaritas is looking at how we are positioned to attract and retain people with shared values of wanting to make a ripple of change.

I’ve mentioned the word change several times, and the unknown of the future can feel scary. What won’t change is our mission to serve people as an expression of the love of Christ. This will continue to be our North Star as we make ripples of positive change in our community. We will continue to listen and take care of your concerns. We will continue to have great times with you and with each other. We will continue to grow and nurture and challenge each other. We will continue to have Samaritas Senior Living be the place where people come and comment on our warmth and welcoming environment. I am so looking forward to our tomorrows together!

Wishing you and yours a most wonderful Holiday Season and Happy New Year!
