Severe poverty due to Covid-19, multiple natural disasters, and on-going corruption have created a crisis in Central America that is projected to cause huge numbers of children fleeing to the US in 2021, many without their families. Samaritas’ need for foster families to welcome these children in long-term or temporarily is greater than ever!
Transitional Foster Care: Welcome a child or older youth into your home temporarily (15-45 days) while Samaritas works to unite them with family living in the US. Foster homes must be able to drive the children to a program-based school in either Lansing or Ann Arbor daily.
Long-term Foster Care: Welcome an older youth without relatives in the US into your family, giving them a place to call home, and guide and support them as they prepare for adulthood and independence in their new country. These foster families often build a long-term relationship with the youth and become their “unofficial” family even after they graduate from the foster care program.
