We are lucky to have loyal employees, including Jamaal Grantham. Jamaal has worked at Samaritas Senior Living
of Bloomfield Hills for ten years!
When asked how he got started working with seniors, he said, “I had been looking for a job in 2007 and had a friend who worked here. They had a maintenance position open. I worked on an outside project with the supervisor at that time and he asked me to come in. I came in for an interview and was hired on the spot.” Jamaal said that he had no prior maintenance experience, but he has learned a lot in the past ten years.
Jamaal said his favorite thing about his job is, “building a rapport with the residents, seeing how they view life, where they are at and where they’ve been. They are grounded. I’ve never worked in a community like this, when I started I was very shy and not very sociable. I didn’t know what to expect. The residents then complained that I didn’t talk enough! So, now I get to know them and miss them when they leave. Building that relationship is really important to me.”
He says that he’s stayed at Samaritas for so long because everyone gets along with each other. People with different walks and backgrounds can get along so well. It is a second home to him.
Jamaal says, “The residents who have accepted me into their lives, our relationships have built into something great. It is really hard to walk away from that.”
From all of us here at Samaritas, we thank Jamaal and the other employees who have spent years making the lives here better. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. We appreciate all that you have done!
