Samaritas Virtual Townhall on Tuesday, May 19 at Noon

Samaritas, one of Michigan’s largest faith-based health and human services nonprofit organizations, is calling attention to the expected increased need for foster care families resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, while demonstrating appreciation for the families who have already opened up their homes to children in foster care, with special attention including a statewide Town Hall forum. This coincides with May as national Foster Care Awareness Month.

To provide greater clarity to the needs of children in foster care and families to support them, especially in light of the impact COVID-19 is having on services and budgets across Michigan, Samaritas is leading a virtual State of Foster Care Town Hall with key members of the foster care community, on May 19 at 12:00 p.m., available via Zoom and on Facebook Live. Christy McDonald, anchor and managing editor of One Detroit for Detroit Public Television, will moderate the hour-long panel discussion, which will include panelists:

• JooYeun Chang, Senior Deputy Director of Michigan Department of Health & Human Services
• Janet Reynolds Snyder, Executive Director of The Michigan Federation for Children and Families, President of the National Organization of State Associations for Children
• Laura Mitchell, Executive Director of Samaritas Foster Care Services
• Kristyn Peck, CEO of the West Michigan Partnership for Children
• Brenda Baker-Mbacke, Director of CASA for CARE House of Oakland County
• The Schneider Family, Samaritas Foster Parents
