Growing up I loved the first day of school each year with the anticipation of what the new school year would bring. I loved to learn then and it has never changed.
I see that with many of the residents here. They flock to hear speakers that come in. It is amazing the number of “talking books” that come in every week here. Residents wanted a map of the world and one of the United States put up so that they could see the places talked about on the news. Aging doesn’t stop the desire of knowledge.
As the chaplain here, I get to witness the quest for knowledge on a spiritual level. I see the questions and discussions brought up in the Bible study, devotional times and the times that residents and family members come in to my office for visits.
What is the best resource we have to go to for learning comes from the Bible. It is at our fingertips, whether in a written book or on line, we can learn any time or place. At my home congregation, one of our Marks of Discipleship, is that we will “strive to read the Bible daily.” Can you even imagine what we would learn if we took a little bit of time each day to do that?
