Thrivent Member Network – Great Lakes Region to Match $1 for Every $2 Donated to Samaritas on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3

DETROIT (Nov. 25, 2019) – The Thrivent Member Network – Great Lakes Region and Samaritas are encouraging Michiganders to consider making an online donation at on Dec. 3 to help some of the community’s most vulnerable people. The Thrivent Member Network initiative will support Samaritas, a faith-based non-profit agency, by matching $1 for every $2 raised during the Giving Tuesday campaign. Total amounts will be share on
Thrivent Member Networks are regional groups comprised of members of Thrivent, a diversified financial services organization. Thrivent members are connected by a common desire to make a positive impact in their local communities. There are 23 Thrivent Member Networks across the country.

The donations made on Giving Tuesday will help fund statewide Samaritas programs to help the homeless, people with developmental disabilities, seniors in need of affordable housing, New Americans and children seeking homes with loving guardians.

“We are grateful for of Thrivent’s support and any financial support the public can offer to help us continue our work. For 85 years, Samaritas has served as a safe harbor for families in crisis,” said Kelli Dobner, Samaritas Chief Advancement Officer. “On this Giving Tuesday, I encourage people to also consider being a foster parent to any of the 13,000 kids in Michigan’s foster care system. With help, we can reduce this number by offering these kids stable homes filled with love.”

Donations made online through the Thrivent Member Network’s giving platform on Giving Tuesday will be matched up to $20,000 or until 11:59 p.m. Central Daylight Time (CDT). All online processing fees will be covered by Thrivent so 100 percent of donations will make an impact.

Giving Tuesday is just one of many campaigns organized by the Thrivent Member Network – Great Lakes Region and Samaritas to help the community. This year, volunteers participating in a Thrivent’s Action Team provided items and assembled Easter baskets for children in the Samaritas foster care system. In the summer, Thrivent staff sponsored Faith Night at the Jimmy John’s Field in Utica, Mich. where they shared some of the benefits of Samaritas’ foster care system. Past collaborations in Lansing, Midland and Muskegon have supported Samaritas programs to help refugees and offer hope to people with development disabilities and adults residing in senior and independent living communities.
