June 20th is World Refugee Day, and people around the world from all walks of life are taking big steps in solidarity with refugees. Samaritas has resettled thousands of refugees from dozens of countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Central and South America. Last year, we served 2,520 New Americans and provided Post Refugee Resettlement services for 1,093 people. Our organization continues to be one of the largest Michigan agencies that helps people escape persecution through resettlement, but we cannot serve these persecuted children of Christ without your dedicated support.
Now more than ever, we have a great need for temporary housing for incoming refugees. Hosting a refugee family or individual while they try to get their lives back on track is one of the most practical, life-enriching experiences a welcoming community can create for themselves and for people who find themselves in a crisis situation. Here is what we need:
- We are looking for host families in Metro Detroit to host refugees for 2-8 weeks, until Samaritas finds long term housing
- Placements can be for as short as two weeks or as long as hosts choose
- Our hosts will offer a welcoming environment to incoming refugee families and individuals to work out their options, and get settled, so that they can begin the process of finding work, education, and rebuilding their lives and their future in the United States
