Backpack Drive

Event date: 7/1/2019 - 8/15/2019

Back to school can be an exciting time, but it can also be stressful for families facing immense amounts of needed school supplies with limited resources to procure them. Samaritas is providing backpacks for children in our care, thanks to the generosity of our donors, residents and staff.

One of the most special things about the Backpack Drive is how it fits into our mission of helping our clients be generative – defined as capable of producing something or causing something to develop. In other words, we live by the credo that one act of goodwill leads to the next, and the next, and the next after that.

The hope and compassion we offer our clients reverberates in ways big and small, and the Backpack Drive illustrates our commitment to finding creative solutions. Hopefully among those new notebooks and colorful markers, children in our care have one less thing to worry about, feeling loved every time they slip on that backpack.

Picture a stone thrown into a pond and the ripples that result. It may seem like a simple thing, but sending a child off to school with a backpack full of every item they need – just like every other kid – creates ripples of self-esteem and determination to do one’s best. And those ripples benefit us all, and demonstrates again our mission of Serving people as an expression of the love of Christ in action.
