Samaritas provides a special summer camp opportunity for these foster children — Our “Foster Kids to Camp” Program. Foster Kids to Camp is a positive, proven communal experience that provides:
- An opportunity to create friendships with other kids like themselves.
- Respite from feeling different or alienated.
- A place to reconnect with their siblings.
- Five days to feel completely normal, free and at peace in a picturesque, Christian setting — Camp Stony Lake in New Era, Michigan.
Attending summer camp has numerous advantages for children. It can nurture their independence, help them develop important social skills, and increase their self-esteem and self-confidence. Last year, generous donors en-abled Samaritas to send 50 foster children ages 8 to 16 to camp with their siblings — many for the first time. Some of the most popular activities at the camp were swimming, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, basketball, volley-ball, visiting the prayer labyrinth and fishing. Camp was a huge success, with positive reports from the children, their caseworkers and the camp staff.
how you can help
Every child deserves the chance to feel like a normal kid — and YOU can make that happen. Samaritas’ goal is to send 60 kids to Camp Stony Lake in July through the “Foster Kids to Camp” program, and we’d like you to con-sider sponsoring one or more of them. For just $550 you can send one child to camp for five days. This amount covers their tuition, meals, transportation, a T-shirt and an account in the camp canteen where they can pur-chase small treats. It also covers the cost of the camping supplies these kids don’t have like a sleeping bag, pillow, swimsuit, duffle bag, flashlight and toiletries. July is quickly approaching and we need your help today to make sure 60 kids will be able to experience summer camp with their siblings and community. Will you please join Samaritas to make this possible? Your gift of $550 today will bring together siblings separated by foster care and provide a life changing summer camp experience.
